HOW IT BEGAN
My name is Patrick van der Ven and i'm a hobby photographer from The Netherlands ( The Hague ). I became enthusiastic about photographing since my first visit to the Dutch TT at Assen in 1996. where I wanted to make pictures as remembrance to my visit and the atmosphere. And of course I loved the speed and action on track.
MORE SUBJECTS OF INTEREST
It all began with motorsports ( and I still love it ), but since I moved to a house near the beach, and was in search of a subject to photograph during the winterstop of motorsports, I became familiar with a kitespot nearby my house "de Zandmotor". The action, speed, colors, waterdrops, and off course people having fun, attracted me. And the beach is off course a very nice place to be at. With, at the right time, the most beautiful light. Especially around sunset.
When I started to post photo's in a selected members group of the kitespot at Facebook I recieved some very pleasant reactions from the kitesurfers. I soon started to take more pictures and provide them to the kitesurfers. Later on one of the kitesurfers I provided some action photo's of himself, asked me if he could use my pictures for the site of The Hague called BeHague. My pictures of the kitespot can be found at https://behague.com/nl/paradijs-voor-surfers. Of course I am very proud of this achievement.
Later on in 2016, thanks to the guys and girls I met at the kitespot, I was asked to photograph the kite marathon HoektotHelder, a charity event for the heart foundation. In 2017 this event is being organised again and is even bigger and attracting some known kitesurfers. Check it out at https://www.hoektothelder.nl/.
The most things sports and action related attract me. It's a challenge to capture the action.
Besides my enthusiasm for sports and action I try to take pictures of nature and the places I visit on vacations and trips.
In short ..... I love to take pictures and I am constantly getting interested in photographing different subjects.
GEAR
I began with an analog camera and later on went from a digital compact camera to a DSLR. Currently I use a Nikon D7100 with a couple of different lenses. I still have my previous DSLR's ( Nikon D60 and D3300 ) in case I need two body's in a particular situation. Of course I want to add more gear to my collection ( for example a waterhouse and better lenses ). But it's an expensive hobby. So I have to be patient on that subject.
Meanwhile I'll keep having fun with photographing and improving my skills.
I hope you all enjoy my site and pictures :-) This is just a fraction of my pictures and I will try to update them regularly with fresh ones.
